Madalyn S. Blondes, Ph.D.

Resarch Geologist

U.S. Geological Survey


Madalyn Blondes is a Research Geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey's Geology, Energy & Minerals Science Center in Reston, VA. She is the co-Chief of the Oil & Gas Waters Project which focuses on characterization, treatment, reuse, and impacts of water associated with hydrocarbon production ("produced waters"). Her current research centers on the geochemistry of produced waters and carbon dioxide storage through mineralization. Madalyn obtained her B.A. from the Pomona College Geology Department in 2003 and her Ph.D. from the Yale University Department of Geology & Geophysics in 2008. She did postdoctoral research at the University of Maryland before joining the USGS in 2010.
