William (Bill) Bates is the Branch Chief for the Prevention Branch in the Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water at U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Prevention Branch oversees the national Underground Injection Control and Source Water Protection programs. Prior to his current role, Bill's focus was on induced seismicity and oil and gas related injection practices. He also spent eight years within U.S. EPA's Region 5 office as a permit writer and an enforcement officer.
